skates and equipment
No, [rink name] offers skate rental at [rate]. If you're interested in purchasing skates, please check with us for recommendations. We also have used skates available for purchase.
Skates should fit tightly in the ankle, heel and length of the foot, but the skater should be able to wiggle his or her toes. Allow extra time on your first day to determine the best size of skates. Start with shoe size, but be prepared to switch to a larger or smaller size depending on the brand and model.
For maximum support, lace skates tightly from toe to ankle, and then crisscross laces to the top of the skate. If laces are long enough, double knot them once the skates feel tight enough. If you need help sizing or tying skates, ask an experienced skater, parent, coach or volunteer for help.
We recommend wearing lots of layers! Layered clothing helps prevent skaters from overheating. We also encourage Learn to Skate participants to wear gloves or mittens.
